Humberto Souza Santos has been a criminal defense lawyer since 2003. He holds a PhD in Criminal Law from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ, 2018) and a Master’s degree in Criminal Sciences from Universidade Cândido Mendes (2006). He was also a visiting scholar (Gastwissenschaftler) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich, Germany (2008–2009).
He has taught in the postgraduate program in Corporate Criminal Law and Complex Crimes at IBMEC/RJ (2018) and in the postgraduate program in Criminal Sciences at the Education and Research Institute of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the State of Rio de Janeiro (2017–2018).
He served as Deputy Coordinator of the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences (IBCCRIM) for the State of Rio de Janeiro (2017–2018). He is the author of the books Ainda vive a teoria do bem jurídico? (Does the Legal Interest Theory Still Live?) and Co-autoria em crime culposo e imputação objetiva (Co-authorship in Involuntary Crimes and Objective Imputation), as well as numerous legal articles.
