Criminal defense lawyer Christiano Fragoso—our partner and a Criminal Law professor at UERJ—participated as a panelist in the “1st Brazilian Criminal Lawyers Discussing Nilo Batista” seminar. The event honored former Governor Nilo Batista, who recently turned 80 and is one of the most prominent criminal lawyers in the history of Brazilian law. Joining him on the “Panel I – Subjective Criminal Law or Punitive Power?” were lawyers Thiago Rocha (panelist) and Carmen da Costa Barros (moderator).
Christiano Fragoso mentioned the influence of professors Heleno Fragoso and Roberto Lira on Nilo Batista’s legal practice and addressed the importance of the concept of “punitive power” as opposed to “subjective criminal law.”
