The most important work in the history of Brazilian criminal law literature—authored almost entirely by Justice Nelson Hungria—provides an article-by-article commentary on the 1940 Penal Code. Heleno Fragoso updated certain volumes (Volume I, Tomes I and II; Volume V; Volume VI; and Volume VII—all originally by Hungria) without altering the original text, instead adding supplementary commentary at the end of each volume.
