Fernando Fragoso
Fernando Fragoso was a criminal lawyer known for his legal knowledge, his defense of the legal profession, of democracy and his dedication to the causes he defended. With resourcefulness and talent, he acted as a leader of the international legal profession, having held the presidency of the Inter-American Bar Association (IABA) and the Brazilian Lawyers Institute (IAB), as well as leading positions in the Brazilian Bar Association, Rio de Janeiro Section (OAB-RJ).
The son of Heleno Cláudio Fragoso, one of the most renowned jurists in Brazilian law, Fernando was a partner at Fragoso Advogados, with his sons Rodrigo and Christiano, who now continue his legacy at the head of the traditional firm.
Fernando Fragoso graduated in 1973 from the University of the State of Guanabara (UEG), now the University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). At the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), he earned a master's degree in Public Law.
The criminalist taught at the Candido Mendes University, as a full professor of Criminal Law from 1981, and at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV) Postgraduate Program in Economic Criminal Law. He was a member of the Council of the International Criminal Bar and a lawyer admitted to the International Criminal Court, in Hague, in the Netherlands.
Fernando was a member of the Scientific Council of the United Nations Latin American Institute for the Prevention of Crime and the Treatment of Offenders (ILANUD), the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences, the Association Internationale de Droit Pénal (France), the Société Internationale de Défense Sociale and the Inter-American Bar Association.
He died in 2022, aged 72.
