Autor de uma celebrada s\u00e9rie de cinco livros sobre a ditadura, Gaspari destacou a hist\u00f3ria de Heleno e sua atua\u00e7\u00e3o em alguns dos casos descritos pelo jurista no livro. Entre os exemplos, est\u00e3o a defesa de Niomar Moniz Sodr\u00e9 Bittencourt, dona do jornal Correio da Manh\u00e3, presa em 1969, e de sindicalistas metal\u00fargicos de S\u00e3o Paulo, presos por conta da deflagra\u00e7\u00e3o de uma greve em 1980. O presidente Luiz In\u00e1cio Lula da Silva era um dos l\u00edderes do movimento. <\/span><\/p>\n

Na coluna, Gaspari classificou Heleno como \u201cadvogado acima de tudo\u201d e \u201cum destemido defensor de presos pol\u00edticos\u201d. \u201cS\u00f3 advogados como Heleno Fragoso defendiam o fiapo de direito que ainda existia\u201d, escreveu o jornalista. <\/span><\/p>\n

Heleno’s work, originally published in 1984 and relaunched in the year of his centenary, was updated by his grandsons Christiano, Rodrigo, and Jo\u00e3o Pedro Fragoso\u2014all lawyers and partners at the firm founded by their grandfather in 1952. They are the sons of Heleno’s sons, Fernando and Jos\u00e9 Carlos Fragoso, who passed away in 2023 and 2003, respectively. The preface is written by Nilo Batista, interim governor of Rio de Janeiro in 1994, who openly described Heleno as his \u201cfather in Criminal Law and criminal defense.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n

Published by Revista dos Tribunais\/Thomson Reuters, the book will be launched at a seminar at the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences (IBCCRIM), from August 26 to 28, during Lawyers’ Month, in S\u00e3o Paulo (SP). <\/span>The book is now available for pre-order on the publisher’s website<\/a><\/strong>.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
